Ethan was born August 23, 1997. He was a teeny furball when he joined our family, and clung to his grandma Missy, who is no longer with us.

You can see how teeny he was

His first autumn he loved playing with the falling leaves, and often brought one into the house as a toy.

At 4 months Ethan had long legs and a longer body. Holding him was like holding a slinky. He spent most of his time on the floor, convinced he couldn't jump onto the sofa or chairs. All that changed when he smelled the ice cream cone in my hand. He did a Super-dog leap onto my lap to get at the ice cream--and has been hopping onto chairs ever since.

Ethan discovered snow his first winter--and loved it! He played with snowballs and tunneled into snowdrifts.

A typical puppy, Ethan loves his toys and frequently uses them for pillows. He also loves to eat, and assumes that he's human so he can join us at the table.

As he matured, the little furball grew into a long-legged pup.

Life is full of tough breaks; Ethan spent most of his first year healing from one. While reaching for a toy, he fell off the bed and broke both bones in his right arm. Over the next 8 months he had multiple surgeries and many casts. He quickly adapted to having a cast on his arm, often using it as a club to get your attention. Ouch! By the time he got his last cast, he'd had enough and just wanted it to be over. His surgeon did a great job of getting his bones to heal while they grew, so you'd never know today that he broke them.
